# Waitlist Information
\
Waitlist options for a limited number of courses have been enabled as of open registration.\
\
**REMINDER: Students are not guaranteed a specific position on the waitlist and being on a waitlist does not guarantee a seat will be made available in the course. Students should monitor their Texas A&M email account regularly to check for waitlist notices.**\
\
**Waitlist notification processing day and time are subject to change.**\
\
Departments may elect to use the waitlist functionality for their course offerings. If elected, a student may be offered the opportunity to add themselves to a waitlist for a course that is considered at capacity.\
\
If seat(s) become available, a student on a waitlist may be notified via email and will be given the opportunity to add themselves to the course. Once a student elects to add themselves to a waitlist, they are responsible for monitoring their Texas A&M email daily. Prompt action is required, otherwise the notice may expire and the opportunity will go to the next designated person on the waitlist.\
\
## [Notification Schedule](#a-notificationschedule-PySDyD)
Waitlists are available during open registration for each semester. Access opens with the beginning of open registration and closes one day before the add/drop deadline for the semester. \
- Notices will be sent at approximately 11 p.m. on the following nights and students must take action before the notice expires at approximately 4 p.m. the next day:
- Notices will only be sent on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, excluding holidays or university closures.
- Students who receive a notice are required to add themselves to the class. Students are not automatically added to a course if offered a seat from the waitlist.
\
Note: Students can drop themselves from a waitlist during any valid registration period. We encourage students to remove themselves from a waitlist if they no longer wish to be given consideration should a seat become available.
## [General Guidelines](#a-generalguidelines-et4XIB)
- Courses enabled with a waitlist option can be found searching for **WAIT** in the **Class Attribute** field, leaving the **Subject**field blank, in the online **Advanced Class Search**.
- Waitlisting does NOT guarantee a seat will be offered in the course.
- For courses offering a waitlist - **if/when a seat opens up, the class schedule may display the class not being full, however, any available seat will only be provided to students on the waitlist. DO NOT DROP A CLASS in an attempt to get a seat in a class with a waitlist.**This may result in a student losing a seat held in a dropped course AND not being able to add the other course because it is being offered to others already on the waitlist.
- Waitlisted courses do not count towards enrolled hours.
- All pre-requisite, registration restrictions, and registration holds apply to whether or not a student can waitlist a course.
- Students can sign up on a waitlist for departments offering the waitlist option AND if the course\* is full.
- Students are NOT automatically enrolled in a course from the waitlist. Students must take action to enroll.

## Student Waitlist FAQ
## [What are waitlists?](#a-whatarewaitlists-lpmJ7q)
Waitlists are queues that provide students with notifications that a seat has become available for a class. When a participating course is full, students have the option of joining the waitlist. If a student is on the list and a seat opens up, they **may**be provided with an option to register for the course. There is no guarantee a seat will be offered to any particular student on a waitlist.
## [How do students join a waitlist?](#a-howdostudentsjoinawaitlist-BOx0H-)
Registering for a place on the waitlist for a class is similar to registering for a seat in the class.\
\
When registering for courses in Howdy and a course is full, students will see a**Registration Add Error.**If the course offers the option of a waitlist, students may select it in the **Action**drop down menu. The schedule will now display this class status as **Wait Listed**.
## [How do students know if they are able to register from the waitlist?](#a-howdostudentsknowiftheyareabletoregisterfromthewaitlist-w7PwSa)
Once added to a waitlist, students are responsible for monitoring their Texas A&M email for a waitlist notification. The email notice will contain an expiration date and time by which action must be taken. Notices are generated at approximately 11 p.m. and students would have until approximately 4 p.m. the next day to take action and officially register for the course.
## [What happens if a student's notice expires?](#a-whathappensifastudentsnoticeexpires-3mxFEk)
Students who do not take action and register before the expiration date and time listed in the notice, will loose the ability to register for the course and will no longer be on the waitlist. Notices are then forwarded to subsequent students waiting for an available seat.\
\
If desired, students can add themselves back on the waitlist; however, they will not be guaranteed the same position in the queue.
## [Why can't students waitlist for a class?](#a-whycantstudentswaitlistforaclass-Bgd7rm)
Students may not be able to add to a waitlist for the class, if:
- It is not a valid registration period (registration is closed per the registration schedule)
- The department of that course is not offering a waitlist for the course
- A student may have a hold on their account preventing registration or signing up for waitlists
- A student may not meet the course prerequisites or restrictions
## [How do students drop themselves from the waitlist?](#a-howdostudentsdropthemselvesfromthewaitlist--ApgAQ)
Students are able to drop themselves from a waitlist the same way they would drop from a course they are already registered for. Go to the **Aggie Schedule Builder** via Howdy.
## [How do students know what courses offer a waitlist?](#a-howdostudentsknowwhatcoursesofferawaitlist-UPiqOj)
Students can search by section attribute and select an available waitlist. If students are not searching by section attribute, when registering in **Aggie Schedule Builder,** they will be presented with a waitlist option; if it is available for the CRN they are registering in.
## [Are students guaranteed a seat in a course if they are on the waitlist?](#a-arestudentsguaranteedaseatinacourseiftheyareonthewaitlist-D_qoDg)
No. Adding to the waitlist does not guarantee students a specific place on the waitlist, nor will it guarantee one would be offered a seat in the course.
## [Should students check their Texas A&M official email often?](#a-shouldstudentschecktheirtexasaampmofficialemailoften-0rkknh)
Yes! The waitlist process will send notification emails to students' official Texas A&M email about waitlist status and notices generally expire at approximately 4 p.m. the next day after the notice was issued.
