Program Summary
Purdue’s atmospheric science major prepares you to study the forces that shape Earth’s weather and climate. From severe storms and hurricanes to long-term climate trends and environmental impacts, you’ll gain the scientific foundation to forecast, model and analyze the atmosphere. Hands-on opportunities include real-time weather forecasting, climate modeling and environmental monitoring. You’ll also study the role of atmospheric science in public safety, environmental policy and sustainability. Whether you’re interested in broadcast meteorology, satellite data analysis or atmospheric research, this major equips you with the tools to make an impact. Many graduates work in meteorology, environmental science or government agencies, while others continue on to graduate school.
