## Program Summary

Biochemistry is the science that explains life at the molecular level. In Purdue’s biochemistry major, you’ll study how cells use energy, transfer genetic information, and perform complex functions — from blood clotting and memory storage to photosynthesis and fertilization. This chemistry-based degree emphasizes laboratory skills and hands-on research, with six required credits of undergraduate research in a variety of fields. You’ll also take supporting courses in biology to deepen your understanding of cellular and molecular processes. With strong preparation in science and lab work, this degree is ideal for students planning to attend medical, dental or veterinary school — or pursue careers in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology or biomedical research.
