# Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication

## **Future of Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication**

The College of Agriculture has made the decision that, due to persistent low enrollments, the Department of Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication (ASEC) will close in June 2026, while the undergraduate program for Agricultural Education will continue. This decision complies with [Indiana Code 21-18-9-10.5](https://www.in.gov/sba/files/HB1001_CCR_v4.pdf), which the Indiana General Assembly amended in the 2025-27 state budget, that requires Indiana state educational institutions to review programs with low enrollment and graduation numbers and either eliminate the program or restructure.

1. 1. **The Agricultural Education program will continue to be an undergraduate major in the College of Agriculture and the only agricultural education program offered at a public university in Indiana.**
   2. Current undergraduate students majoring in Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication will receive assistance to complete their major requirements, finish their degree and graduate. The major will no longer be offered for admission as a program of study for future students.
   3. Current ASEC graduate students will also receive assistance to finish their coursework and obtain their degrees. No new ASEC graduate students will be admitted.
   4. Tenured faculty in ASEC will retain tenured positions in the College of Agriculture.
   5. Staff in ASEC will receive assistance as specified under Human Resources’ standard guidelines.

There are no plans to close any other units within the College of Agriculture. The college is working to ensure that the impact on current students, faculty and staff will be minimal and handled with utmost care.
