Programme structure
The Master of Engineering Management is a 120-point programme consisting of taught courses and a final semester project.
Development and delivery of the programme is shared between the Faculty of Engineering and Design (primary) and the Business School. Courses delivered by Engineering and Design will run by semester, while Business courses will run by quarter. For course start and end dates, visit the Important dates page.
Note: Not all courses are delivered across both on-campus or online delivery modes. Please make sure you select the appropriate on campus stream.
All students will choose to undertake one of our two project options. These options are designed to suit different learning styles and career goals and will be undertaken in the final semester of your degree:
- ENGGEN 784 Capstone Project
- 30-point team-based project undertaken in the final semester of your programme
- Ideal for those who enjoy collaborative work and solving real-world problems
- Teams of 4-8 students addressing challenges from client organisations
- Regular assessment through reflection journals and project-related deliverables
- Regular catch-ups with project client and your team, with ongoing feedback from course coordinator
- ENGGEN 794 Research Project
- 30-point independent research project undertaken in the final semester of your programme
- Select from a range of programme-related research topics or co-develop a research idea of your own interest in collaboration with a supervisor.
- Regular meetings with project supervisor as per mutual agreement
- Assessment based on final research report
- High grades may lead to Honours and a pathway to PhD study
Eligibility for enrolment in the ENGGEN 794 Research Project requires submission of an Expression of Interest to the Programme Director.Selection will be based on a combination of factors, including your academic performance (GPA), the relevance of your proposed topic to industry, evidence of industry support, and/or your intention to pursue PhD study.

You must have completed either:
- A BE or BE(Hons) and passed with a GPA of 5.0 in at least 60 points at Stage III.
Or
- A relevant Bachelors degree with a GPA of 5.0 or higher in 60 points above Stage II and at least three years of relevant professional experience approved by the Programme Director
Or
- A BE or BE(Hons) and passed 60 points toward a relevant postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma with a GPA of 5.0 or higher.
Whether a qualification is considered relevant will depend on the courses passed and the applicant’s intended specialisation. Qualifications in applied science, engineering or technology may be considered relevant.\

You must have completed a four-year bachelors degree in engineering at a recognised university (or similar institution) that includes:
- Broad coverage in your first year of the foundational science topics that underpin engineering disciplines: mathematical modelling, chemical and materials science, electrical engineering theory, mechanics, programming, and engineering design.
- One year of postgraduate-level study.
- A research project or dissertation comprising at least one-quarter of the final year.
You will need a GPE of 5.0.

Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $9.44 per point, estimated at $1,132.80 for full-time study (120 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.
