Not sure which online study option is right for you?
Understanding the different types of qualifications can help you choose the right path.
Below is a quick guide to the different online courses at UoA Online.
Start Your Online Journey
Micro-credentials
Micro-credentials are short certification courses that empower you to quickly learn new professional skills at your own pace, through online study and part-time in our fully online learning environment.
Certificate of Proficiency
A Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) is a course-only study option that allows you to take a course at the University of Auckland, without studying a full programme. It is a good option for those who want to study short-term or to test whether a subject is something they wish to pursue more of in the future.
Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate
A Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate (PGDip or PGCert) is a short programme that helps you build expertise in a specific field. It allows for flexible study and focuses on advancing your career or academic knowledge.
Master’s Degree
A Master’s Degree offers advanced study in a specific discipline, combining coursework and research. It’s ideal for deepening expertise and gaining professional or academic qualifications.
Can I transfer credits from online courses towards a master’s degree at the University of Auckland?
By completing one or two credit bearing courses, you can build up a maximum of 30 points*, which you can credit towards a masters degree or other postgraduate qualification, including our postgraduate diploma (120 points) programmes.
Take it one step at a time by enrolling in one or two courses. This will enable you to ease yourself back into university study while building up specialised knowledge and expertise in your chosen field. In selected courses, you will also receive a digital badge as recognition of your achievement to share with your employer and professional network.
* There is a time limit for transferring credit towards a masters degree or other postgraduate qualification.
