## About the SDG 8 Hub

Our hub organises sustainable development goal 8 (SDG 8) activity around three interconnected work streams. Together they guide how we contribute to decent work and sustainable economic growth – through the research we produce, the learning experiences we shape, and the partnerships we build.

### Research contributions

Our research bearing brings together colleagues from across the University, and wider academic networks, to explore the big questions shaping the future of work and economic systems. From sustainable and shared growth to labour rights, climate transitions and digital transformation, our researchers are generating evidence that informs policy, supports industry, and strengthens communities.

We focus on work that makes a difference — connecting global SDG 8 targets with real-world challenges in Aotearoa New Zealand and across the Asia-Pacific. Through collaboration with our international Vice-Chairs and partners, we are building a visible and impactful research programme that positions the University as a leader in this space.

### Teaching and education resources

Preparing the next generation is central to SDG 8. This work stream supports the integration of decent work, sustainability, economic inclusion and responsible leadership into our courses and programmes.

We are working to embed SDG 8 across disciplines, develop shareable teaching resources within the United Nations Academic Impact network, and create learning experiences that equip students with the skills, insight and values needed to shape fairer and more resilient economies. Our aim is not just to teach about decent work — but to enable graduates to actively advance it.

### Engagement and partnerships

SDG 8 is inherently collaborative. This work stream connects our research and teaching with industry, government, iwi, unions, NGOs and international partners to create practical impact.

Through think tanks, symposia, partnerships and co-designed initiatives, we create spaces for dialogue, innovation and shared action. These relationships ensure our work remains grounded, responsive and relevant — while strengthening the University’s local and global contribution to decent work and inclusive economic growth.

We are working towards a University of Auckland hosted SDG 8 conference in 2027.
