Supervising research candidates
Supervision is an essential part of teaching. It directly supports students in becoming skilled, independent researchers, in line with expectations outlined in our Academic Standards.
Because the University’s Academic Standards explicitly recognise supervision as part of teaching, the definitions, expectations, and resources outlined in the TeachWell Framework can be directly applied to supervision practices. The Academic Standards set detailed expectations for effective supervision at various academic career stages, highlighting that supervision should be scholarly, intellectually challenging, and well-informed by relevant research.
Supervisor accreditation, training, and related professional development are managed by the School of Graduate Studies, which provides support and workshops to help supervisors meet the University’s expectations.
For practical resources and further guidance on supervision accreditation, development opportunities, guides, checklists, visit the Supervision Hub.
