Profile

Dr. Ruvani Fonseka is a researcher and practitioner at the intersection of social work and public health. Her work is focused on preventing and addressing gender-based violence both in the US and internationally. Prior to studying at UCSD, Ruvani completed a Fulbright fellowship researching gender norms among young adults in Sri Lanka. She has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali, and as an AmeriCorps member in the San Francisco Bay Area. Starting in fall 2021, Ruvani will be an assistant professor in the San José State University School of Social Work.
