Director's Message

Materials research is the foundation of nearly every modern technology from energy systems and infrastructure to transportation, electronics, water security, and advanced manufacturing. For Saudi Arabia, advanced materials play a strategic role in supporting national priorities such as economic diversification, localization of critical capabilities, clean energy deployment, and industrial competitiveness.

The Kingdom’s operating environment presents a distinctive set of performance requirements for materials used in energy, infrastructure, water, and industrial systems. Addressing these requirements drives innovation in durability, reliability, and lifecycle efficiency, resulting in materials solutions that meet the highest standards of performance both locally and globally.

The Interdisciplinary Research Center for Advanced Materials (IRC-AM) addresses these needs by advancing next-generation materials, coatings, alloys, polymers, and functional systems designed to meet industrial needs and generate economic value. The center delivers solutions that improve durability, efficiency, and performance across key sectors such as energy, oil & gas, mining, manufacturing, and clean energy technologies.

Our research portfolio continues to expand in areas of strategic importance, with a strong focus on energy, sustainability, materials for extreme environments, critical minerals, and process design. These research themes position IRC-AM alongside leading global materials research centers while directly supporting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives.\
