About us

Overview

Within the human society, when complexity increases, there is a matching rise in the energy use and, as can be seen all around us, modern civilization is becoming more complex by the day. Although before the industrial revolution our energy needs were modest, now the strain on our supplies of fossil fuels is ever increasing. Oil will continue to play a major role and be a hugely important energy source in the years to come. However, it is necessary to use energy efficiently, conserve, and develop technologies and energy sources that will allow the most efficient use of fossil fuels possible.

Energy efficiency would contribute more to our economic prosperity than any single source of energy. Whenever energy is used, there will be opportunities to increase the efficiency of its use. In most cases, measures taken to improve the energy efficiency will pay for themselves over time in the form of lower energy bills. Improving energy efficiency is the most abundant, cheapest, and fastest approach that we have right now to save and extend the life of the fossil energy resources.

KFUPM’s Center of Excellence in Energy Efficiency (CEEE) aspires to be an interdisciplinary research institute committed to increasing energy efficiency. The CEEE was established with a noble grant from the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), as an initiative under the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) and Saudi Energy Efficiency Program (SEEP), as the first university-based energy efficiency center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to focus on the dissemination of knowledge, and transfer of energy efficient technology into the marketplace.

Vision

"Striving for educational excellence in energy efficiency"

Mission

To disseminate knowledge on energy efficiency and to conduct and promote impactful practices in the field of energy efficiency.

Objectives

The assessment of energy consumption practices and conservation opportunities for industrial clients has always been tied to the cost of energy resources. Beginning with the oil embargo in the seventies, interest in efficient running of industrial operations has risen with manufacturing cost to the point where the current study of resource use has broadened into the waste minimization / pollution prevention and productivity arenas. The CEEE relies upon a strong public-private partnership and collaboration with industry, government, and our university partners to meet the demands for innovation in energy efficiency, business development and the growing need for a trained labor force.

The specific objectives of the center are the following:
