[Pure Profile](https://ri.kfupm.edu.sa/irc-am/about-us/Dr. Hassan Sadek received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan, where he specialized in the development of nanoarchitected materials as mechanical metamaterials using bottom-up approaches. Before joining KFUPM, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Al-Azhar University, Egypt. His research focuses on harnessing the synergy of well-ordered structures and nanoscale effects to enhance the mechanical performance of materials. His expertise spans well-ordered porous structures, nanofabrication, and materials science and engineering. He advocates for a paradigm shift in the design of next-generation advanced materials, from a chemistry-based approach (what they are made of) to a structure-based approach (how they are organized).)

Dr. Soomro’s research expertise lies in welding technologies, additive manufacturing of metals, and corrosion prevention. His contributions span innovative welding processes, advanced additive manufacturing methods such as friction stir and resistance spot additive manufacturing, and the development of high-performance metallic components for critical engineering applications. In addition to his research, Dr. Soomro has extensive teaching and mentoring experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with expertise in courses of Materials Science and Engineering. )

Following his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, where he deepened his experience in 2D materials and their applications in energy and environmental technologies. He then served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Beni-Suef University (BSU), Egypt, contributing to teaching, mentoring, and advancing research in advanced nanomaterials.Dr. Esmat is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (IRC-SES) at KFUPM. His research focuses on developing advanced carbon materials for CO2 capture and conversion, as well as battery technologies. He has published widely in top-tier journals and reviews articles in materials science, environmental science, and energy fields. His long-term goal is to create innovative carbon-based and 2D materials to tackle global energy and sustainability challenges. )

[Pure Profile](https://ri.kfupm.edu.sa/irc-am/about-us/I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from the School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (2022), under the supervision of Prof. M. Ghanashyam Krishna. My doctoral research, titled “Studies on Hydrothermally Processed Zinc Oxide Nanostructures for Optical, Wettability, and Sensing Applications,” focused on tailoring ZnO nanostructures for multifunctional device applications. I hold a M.Sc. in Physics with a specialization in Electronics (2015) and a B.Sc. in Physics (2013) from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India. From September 2023 to November 2024, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the GMF Group, Center for Exact Sciences and Technology (CCET), Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil, funded by FAPESP, where I studied the structure and electrical properties of domains in ferroelectric and multiferroic materials. Earlier, I served as a Nanotechnology Project Associate at the University of Hyderabad (August 2021–September 2023) in a cleanroom environment (Class 100 and Class 1000), gained hands-on experience in lithography, thin-film deposition via PVD techniques, and device fabrication. My research interests include nanomaterials synthesis, thin-film engineering, and advanced characterization, with emphasis on ZnO nanostructures and their applications in electronic, optoelectronic, sensing, and energy storage devices.)

His primary research interests include slurry and cavitation erosion, surface engineering, thermal spray and hydrophobic coatings, cryogenic treatments, additive manufacturing, wear, and material processing and characterization. He has expertise in developing and evaluating advanced coatings and surface treatments for improving material performance under severe environments. He also has knowledge of material characterization techniques such as SEM, XPS, XRD, and TEM.)
