## What are the potential areas\* of Collaboration?
1. Arts & Humanities includes History, Philosophy, Literature, Language, Religious Studies, and Cultural Studies and Focus in Human culture, expression, critical theory, and historical inquiry
2. Engineering & Technology includes Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science and Focus in Applied sciences, innovation, design, and industrial applications.
3. Life Sciences & Medicine includes Medicine, Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Public Health, and related fields and Focus in Human and animal life, health, and biological processes
4. Natural Sciences includes Physics, Chemistry, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Mathematics, Environmental Science and Focus in Fundamental scientific understanding of the natural world
5. Social Sciences & Management includes Economics, Business, Sociology, Education, Political Science, Psychology and Focus in Human behavior, society, governance, and organizational studies

## When is the call for proposal? Is there any specific deadline for submission?
There is no deadline to submit applications, it can be submitted as and when a collaboration is agreed upon between KFUPM member and external collaborator. The application will be processed subject to availability of budget.
## How many microgrant proposals can a KFUPM faculty member submit as Principal Investigator (PI)?
A maximum of two (2) proposals. The two projects should be from different country.
## Is there a limit on how many proposals a faculty member can participate in as PI or Co-PI?
Yes. A faculty member may participate in a maximum of two (2) proposals, either as PI or Co-PI.
## Is there a limit on how many proposal(s) the external collaborator can participate in as principal investigator or Co-PI?
Yes. At any given period of time , the external collaborator can participate is only one project.
## Are there any restrictions or guidelines on how the SAR 20,000 budget can be utilized?
Yes, the budget should be used only for purchasing materials and resources required for executing the project, conference attendance, publication support. It cannot be used for manpower payments.
## Can the budget be used to provide compensation or honorarium to the external collaborator?
No. Payments to the external collaborator must be based on invoices for required resources, in accordance with KFUPM’s financial policies. Honoraria are not permitted.
## Can the budget be used to provide support student assistants (both KFUPM/ Non-KFUPM) or interns involved in the research?
No. The grant does not allow for manpower payments
## Does the grant offer compensation for KFUPM faculty?
No. There is no provision for compensation for KFUPM faculty or students.
## Can the budget be used to fund travel for the foreign collaborator to visit KFUPM, or for KFUPM faculty to visit the collaborator's institution?
Due to budget constraints, visits by the collaborator to KFUPM can be supported under the Ibn Sina Program. However, the grant does not cover travel for KFUPM faculty to visit external institutions.
## What kind of support will the foreign collaborator receive to visit KFUPM?
The collaborator will be provided with round trip economy class ticket and on-campus bachelor accommodation to visit KFUPM.
## Who will be travelling to visit KFUPM?
Only the Principal Investigator or lead collaborator can visit KFUPM.
## How will success be measured or reported?
A report needs to be submitted, detailing meeting outcomes, milestones agreed, and follow-up actions. Documentation may include draft proposal outline, and a joint research action plan.
## Can open-access publication (ACP) fees be included in the budget, since a joint publication is an expected outcome?
Yes, subject to the availability of budget and within the allowable limit.
## The guidelines mention “developing innovative teaching methods and learning resources”?
Examples include (1) Co-Taught Interdisciplinary Online Modules, (2) Podcast-Based Learning Assignments, (3) Community-Embedded Learning Projects.
## Can this grant be used by the external collaborator to attend a conference (where the cost is around SAR 10,000)?
Yes, subject to the availability of budget and within the allowable limit
## Can this grant be used for editorial fees?
KFUPM is already offering editorial support
