Determining Texas Residency

When you apply to a Texas college or university, the school uses the information on your application to decide if you qualify as a Texas resident. Review qualification requirements below.

Free Application Week

Get ready to apply for college for free! The second full week of October is officially Free College Application Week in Texas. From October 13-19, 2025, Texas residents could apply to any Texas public college or university for undergraduate admission, including first-year freshman and transfer applicants, without paying an application fee

Please note that the deadline to submit your application to take advantage of Free Application Week was October 19.**

Coordinated Admissions Program (CAP)

CAP is an alternate pathway to enrollment offered to Texas residents who are not offered regular admission. Students spend their freshman year at another UT System school and are guaranteed transfer admission to UT Austin if all requirements are met.

Texas Advance Commitment
