Applying to Brown

Our admission process challenges us to discover how each applicant would contribute to — and benefit from — Brown's lively academic culture.

Brown’s admission process uses a whole person and contextual framework to review applications and assess a student's ability to succeed in and contribute to our community on College Hill. Our process is grounded in an evaluation of intersecting attributes that support our goal of identifying and admitting students whose strengths, experiences, accomplishments, and perspectives will enable them to be architects of their own educational journey. Given our uniquely flexible but rigorous Open Curriculum, we know that assessing preparation for success at Brown must go beyond a simple calculation of test scores and grade point averages. We use these attributes to understand each student's intellectual strengths, their aspirations, and their capacity to make a positive impact on our community, the nation and the world.
