The Master of Health Administration program is designed to prepare graduate students to become successful healthcare managers and administrators. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage the complex United States healthcare system efficiently and effectively.

The Master of Health Administration program seeks students with a 3.0 GPA or higher from their bachelor’s degree. Generally the degree is completed in two years. No undergraduate courses will satisfy courses for both an undergraduate and master's degree (i.e. “double dipping”). Students entering the program are encouraged to have completed undergraduate coursework in health, health administration, and other business related  courses with all majors accepted.

## **Admissions**

Applicants should have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (A = 4.0) for the last 60 semester hours of their undergraduate degree work (excluding fieldwork, student teaching, and physical activity courses).

International and some domestic students may be required to show proof of [English Proficiency](https://grad.illinois.edu/admissions/instructions/04c).

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program requires completion of 52 hours of coursework including an internship. The courses are intended to provide overall knowledge of the United States healthcare system. The MHA at Illinois prepares students to become innovative, effective leaders in today’s complex healthcare landscape. Through a blend of leadership training, strategic planning, financial management and organizational development, our graduates are equipped to drive meaningful change in the healthcare industry.

Upon completion of the Master of Health Administration program, students will:

1. Be prepared for healthcare leadership careers in the healthcare industry.
2. Leverage organizational data to assess strengths and shortcomings, capitalize on opportunities and attempt to minimize financial, economic, environmental and other organizational threats.
3. Incorporate best-practice techniques into leadership and management activities.
4. Successfully analyze and solve complicated healthcare problems from a lens of critical thinking.
5. Leverage a service orientation that will drive both their work ethic and attitude.
