The minor in art history requires 18 credit hours and offers students insight into the cultural and social history of the visual and built worlds. The minor course of study provides an introduction and initial preparation for students interested in pursuing careers in the humanities or museum work; it also provides excellent research and writing opportunities for those students in art and design looking to expand such skills.

**Minimum required major and supporting course work:** **Students must meet the following course requirements for a total of 18 hours. At least 6 hours of coursework must be advanced (300-400) level and distinct from credit earned for a major or a second minor.**

The minor in art history is designed for undergraduates who seek to study art history as a complement to their major area of study.

Upon successful completion of the Art History Minor, students should be able to:

1. Approach art and visual culture with a critical lens.
2. Think, speak, and write with an understanding of art’s rich cultural histories.
3. Think, speak, and write with an understanding of the potential intersectionality of art and visual culture with other fields of study.
4. Understand how art and visual culture affects the social world.
