## Explore Major Options

Your major choice matters. It determines what GPA and coursework you will need to be competitive for admission. Students can select both a first- and second-choice major in the application.

### Consider this ...

- Many majors are only open for the Fall term. View our [Open & Closed Programs list](https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/transfer/open-closed).
- Listing a second-choice major does not disadvantage you from being considered for your first-choice major.
- Majors unavailable as a second choice include all Gies Business majors, all Grainger Engineering majors, all Computer Science + X majors, all X + Data Science majors, all Music majors except Music BA, which does not require an audition, and the following programs in Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Economics: Agri-Accounting, Consumer Economics and Finance, and Financial Planning.

## Use the Transfer Handbook

Our [Transfer Handbook](https://transferhandbook.illinois.edu/) is your go-to guide. It's important to consult it when considering your transfer options to make sure you meet specific course and GPA requirements as they vary by major. You can search programs alphabetically or by college to find majors of interest.

**Tip:** All grades earned in transferable coursework will be factored into a transferable and cumulative GPA at Illinois. Other institution's grade replacement or grade forgiveness policies do not apply.
