The MEng in Engineering, Aerospace Systems Engineering Concentration is a professionally oriented degree program for students whose primary intent is a career in industry or government. This degree differs from the Master of Science degree in that it is a terminal degree and not a pathway to a doctoral program. The Aerospace Systems Engineering Concentration is available on campus and online.

Other concentrations under the MEng in Engineering major include Autonomy and Robotics, Digital Agriculture, Energy Systems, Instrumentation and Applied Physics, and Plasma Engineering.

Admission Requirements

The Department of Aerospace Engineering accepts applications for admission to the MEng graduate program per the following deadlines:

Fall Admission:December 1\ Spring Admission:July 1

Students with bachelor's or master's degrees in engineering or related fields will be considered for admission if they have a grade point average of at least 3.00 (A = 4.00) for the last two years of undergraduate study. Admission is possible for the spring term, but most begin during the fall term. Full details of admission requirements are on the Aerospace Systems Engineering Concentration website.

All applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of the TOEFL or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as evidence of meeting the English proficiency requirements for full admission status. Under certain circumstances applicants may be exempt from the TOELF/IELTS requirement.

Applicants who are non-native speakers of English and who wish to be considered for teaching assistantships must provide evidence of spoken English language proficiency. Specifically, they must score 24 or higher on the SPEAK portion of the TOEFL exam and 8 or higher on the speaking sub-section of the IELTS.

Financial Aid

Students in concentrations under the MEng in Engineering major are not eligible for Board of Trustees (BOT) tuition-waiver generating assistantships at Illinois.

By the end of the program, students will be able to:

Analyze and apply techniques for developing market and mission-based aerospace systems from the initial identification of customer needs to the delivery of an integrated product.
Gain a breadth of knowledge in aerospace system development outside of the undergraduate focus.
Integrate this knowledge in the design of complex aerospace systems through requirements development, optimization, and validation.
Obtain a systems perspective in the aerospace engineering discipline.
