## Overview

This course is about climate - how it works globally and locally. You will gain an understanding of how the physical properties of the atmosphere and ocean affect energy flows at global and regional scales, and how these flows in turn control the circulation of the atmosphere. You will gain insight into the components that build and influence climate, and how extratropical and tropical weather contribute to different climate patterns.

The importance of climate in environmental and social planning is a recurring theme. Current issues surrounding climate change are addressed during the course. You will learn about climatological methods, key data sources and analysis methods.

The course includes both theoretical and practical elements and is aimed at those who want to understand the role of climate in nature and society.

## Teaching and learning

During your studies, you will learn to analyze climatological processes using both observational and data-driven methods, interpreting data from different climatological sources.

As a student, you will participate in lectures, seminars, group exercises and project work. These elements are mandatory and give you practical experience in climatological research and analysis.

The course trains your ability to identify, discuss and analyze climate-related issues from an earth science perspective. Through project work and collaboration in small groups, you will develop your skills in communicating climate data and drawing conclusions that are relevant for both research and practical application.
