Arrival Day is the start of the Orientation Weeks for all new international students at Lund University. During the Orientation Weeks, you will have the chance to learn more about Sweden and Lund, and to make new friends.

We cannot wait to meet you!

Attending Orientation Weeks is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend that you do so in order to take part in the many services that are only available during this time.

Orientation Weeks programme

The Orientation Weeks for international students include social, cultural and practical activities that aim to help you settle in smoothly at the University, in student life, and in Sweden at large.

The Orientation Weeks period for students starting their studies in spring, usually extends from Arrival Day until the start of the semester (12–18 January 2026), as well as the first weekend after the start of the semester (24–25 January 2026). For more information, please see the full schedule.

You can access the schedule for the orientation weeks by logging in to the learning platform Canvas with your Lund University student account details. When you are on the platform, click on the course page called "Orientation Guide to Lund University Spring 2026". If you cannot see the course page when logged in to the platform, please contact studentreception [at] lu [dot] se (studentreception[at]lu[dot]se).

Arrival Day

The official Arrival Day are open to all new international students at Lund University. During the Arrival Day, international mentors and university staff will welcome you and help you settle into your new life in Lund and Sweden.

About Arrival Day

Important meetings and seminars for all students

Lund University organises several important meetings and seminars during the Orientation week which we strongly encourage all new students to attend. These will cover topics which lay the foundation for successful studies. You will find the time and date of the sessions in the Lund University Orientation Guide.

General Information Meeting

This session will help inform you about settling in at the university. It will also give you the chance to meet the local police and get helpful tips about laws and rules in Lund.

Health and Well-Being Seminar

This seminar will focus on issues such as the Swedish healthcare system and your general well-being.

Student Association Fair

This is a great opportunity to meet student organisations in Lund and discover what student life in Lund has to offer.

Pre-Registration Day (arranged by faculties or coordinators)

During Pre-Registration Day, exchange students meet with their coordinators to settle their Study Plans and get information about academic matters, while many degree programmes arrange welcome activities for their new degree-seeking students. Some meetings may occur on other days as well. Refer to information from your coordinator about any meetings you may need to attend.

The Student Health Care at Lund University will inform you about ways to cope with cultural challenges that you might face as a new student.

Introductory Swedish for Exchange Students (SUSA)

Exchange students who have applied to SUSA will have classes in introductory Swedish and lectures on Swedish culture. The course ends with a written examination (3 ECTS). Please note that the SUSA course is currently only offered to exchange students. Exchange students who will take SUSA (Introductory Swedish for Exchange Students) in the spring, must arrive by 14 January for the start of the course. For students admitted to exchange studies starting in autumn, the date is usually somewhere around 20 August.

Social and cultural activities organised by the International Desk

Lund University organises many social and cultural activities which are open to all incoming students. Details regarding the date, time, place, and how to join the spring activities will be available in the Orientation Guide to Lund University in Canvas.

Student organisations' activities

The famous 'nations' are student social clubs at Lund University. The nations, together with student unions and other student organisations, arrange a wide variety of activities during the Orientation Weeks, as well as in the evenings and on the weekends during the semester.

The International Mentor programme

As a new international student, you have the chance to join the International Mentor Programme. The programme gives you the possibility to kick-start your social life and get to know both Swedes and other international students. During the Orientation Weeks, there are social activities organised specifically for the mentor programme.
