The Öresund Bridge connects Sweden with Denmark and the European continent. Janus Langhorn/imagebank.sweden.se.

Lund University is primarily based in the city of Lund, close to Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city, in the southern part of the country. Malmö and Helsingborg are its other campus cities. The region is also very close to Copenhagen, Denmark.

The main campus buildings are centrally located in Lund, just a 5- to 10-minute walk from the railway station.

Travelling to Lund from abroad

There are several different ways to get to Lund. Some of them are listed below.

From Copenhagen Airport (Kastrup)

The closest international airport to Lund is Copenhagen Airport (also known as 'Kastrup'), in Denmark. The train journey from the airport to Lund takes approximately 35 minutes. The journey takes you over the Öresund Bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden, and via Malmö Central Station.

Train tickets can be bought at the Skånetrafiken ticket machines in Copenhagen Airport's arrival hall. These are located near the escalators leading down to the train platform.

You can pay with a debit or credit card. If you buy a ticket to Lund, it is valid even if you have to change at Malmö Central Station. You can also use the Danish DSB ticket machines when travelling with Skånetrafiken, but a DSB ticket is slightly more expensive. A third option is to download the Skånetrafiken app and buy a ticket there.

Please note that there may be passport control at the first stop (Hyllie) on the Swedish side. Always carry a valid passport or identity card when travelling between Denmark and Sweden.

From Malmö Airport (Sturup)

The closest local airport to Lund is Malmö Sturup. It has some international flights from destinations within Europe and flights from other Swedish airports, including Stockholm.

There are bus connections between Malmö Sturup Airport and Malmö, where you can take a train to Lund. Alternatively, you can take a taxi directly from the airport to Lund.

Trains from Berlin, Oslo, Stockholm and Gothenburg

Lund lies on the main railway line from Malmö to several destinations including Berlin, Oslo, Stockholm, and Gothenburg (Göteborg in Swedish).

The journey from Stockholm to Lund takes about 4–5 hours on the X2000 express train or 6–7 hours on Intercity trains. Gothenburg, about 250 kilometres north of Lund, is well connected by regular trains. The journey from Gothenburg to Lund takes about 3 hours.

Bus/coach services from cities in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway

There are direct bus/coach services to Malmö or Lund from several cities, including Hamburg, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Oslo. Travelling to Copenhagen and then finding a connecting bus/coach or train to Lund can increase your options.

Car and passenger ferries from Germany, Poland and Denmark

There are car and passenger ferry connections to southern Sweden from Germany, Poland and Denmark.

Another option is to take the ferry from Germany to Denmark and then drive to Sweden. There are tolls for crossing the Öresund Bridge from Denmark. Lund is easy to reach from the main roads E6 and E22.

Travelling between Malmö and Lund

By train or bus

Train and bus connections

It takes about 10–15 minutes to travel between Malmö Central Station and Lund by local trains – 'Pågatåg' (slightly slower, more stops) or 'Öresundståg' (slightly faster, fewer stops). Timetables for both types of train can be found on the Skånetrafiken website or in their app.

These trains run about four to six times an hour on weekdays, and less frequently at weekends and in the evenings.

There are also several different bus connections between stops in Malmö and Lund. Travelling by bus generally takes longer than by train. Check the website or app for timetables and stops.

How to buy a ticket

Tickets are available from ticket machines at stations (debit/credit card only). You can also buy your ticket at a ticket office.

Otherwise, the easiest way to buy tickets is through the Skånetrafiken app, especially if you will commute regularly. In the app, you can choose between different types of tickets, including single tickets, 24-hour tickets and 30-day tickets.

Alternatively, you can buy a travel card at a ticket office or on the Skånetrafiken website. You can link tickets to this card on the website or at ticket machines.

By taxi

A regular taxi from Malmö to Lund costs about SEK 350. The trip takes about 20 minutes. Taxis usually accept all major credit cards.
