The world is constantly changing through migration, inequality and social shifts. Gender plays a big part in these changes on the global level as well as on the local and everyday level. This course helps you explore and analyse these global processes through a feminist theoretical lens.

Overview
This course helps you deepen your understanding of gender studies at an advanced level. You will explore how gender intersects with migration, globalisation, power and social change. Through interactive seminars and hands-on analysis, you’ll learn to apply feminist and intersectional theories to current global issues.
During the course you will:
- Learn about key theories in gender studies
- Explore how gender, migration, work and globalisation are connected
- Analyse current events and social issues
- Practise leading and taking part in seminars
- Develop your ability to think critically and independently \ The full-time course is worth 7.5 credits and runs every autumn semester. It is taught in English as a stand-alone course.
Study environment
The Division of Gender Studies at the Department of Sociology is located in the beautiful Campus Paradis in central Lund. Our newly renovated building, Gamla lungkliniken, has lecture halls, group rooms and study areas. The Social Sciences Library (Sambib) and the University Library (UB) are also located in the vicinity.
As a student, you are welcome to participate in the division's open seminars and other events.
Course syllabus
The syllabus contains the formal and legal details of the entire course. It’s a legal document outlining the course structure and requirements, intended mainly for administrative use.
Teaching and learning
You will learn through your own reading, lectures, seminars and writing assignments. Seminars are interactive and involve student led discussions and presentations. You will also practise feminist analysis of current events.
Assessment:
- Take-home exam (6.5 credits)
- Oral peer review (1 credit)
After the course
This course prepares you for further studies in gender studies or related fields. It also supports careers in research, policy, advocacy, international organisations, and NGOs working with social justice, migration or equality issues.

The student must be admitted to the Master Programme Gender, Migration and Social Justice or have 150 credits including a thesis for the degree of Bachelor or a completed major in the Social Sciences or the Humanities, or the student must be admitted to one of the following Master Programmes: Master Programme in Public Health, Master programme in Middle Eastern Studies, Master programme in Asian Studies, or a Master Programme within the Social Sciences.
