Overview
By highlighting four key emerging and persistent global health challenges:
- The unavoidable health impacts of climate change (heat-stress, extreme cold, flooding, rising incidence of vector-borne diseases).
- The prevailing sanitation crises (causing preventable deaths and disease outbreaks, contributing to the poverty trap, affecting economic output, and polluting the environment).
- The global dietary paradox (obesity vs. malnutrition - rising global demand for animal products, fats and sugar and its effect on people and the environment, food insecurity and its impact on health, development and environment).
- The health externalities of global consumerism and manufacturing (the human health effects and environmental pollution caused by the electronics we use, produce and waste).
The course examines the connections among three critical areas of sustainability: development, the environment, and global health, to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of good health for social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

Prerequisites
At least 40 ECTS credits from the programme SAESS Masterprogram i Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science (also called LUMES).
Selection criteria
Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA citizens
Citizens of countries outside:
- The European Union (EU)
- The European Economic Area (EEA) and
- Switzerland
are required to pay tuition fees. You pay an instalment of the tuition fee in advance of each \ semester.
Tuition fees, payments and exemptions
Full programme/course tuition fee: SEK 18,750 \ First payment: SEK 18,750
Note that you may also need to pay an application fee, or provide proof of exemption.
No tuition fees for citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland
There are no tuition fees for citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
