Our researchers meet society's challenges in IT and communications. Together with the industry, they are building the information technology of the future through new innovations, methods and knowledge.

The development of and demand for 6G technology, robots and self-driving cars is advancing rapidly. In these areas, technological breakthroughs are crucial if we are to meet the needs of the industry.

Internationally leading research environment

The ELLIIT research environment conducts basic research as well as applied cutting-edge research in information technology.

Researchers focus on areas such as:

Areas of application

Researchers collaborate with experts from the industrial and public sector at a regional, national and international level.

Safer steering of the car

Modern cars have lane keeping assist as standard equipment. The next step is to assist the driver during sudden evasive manoeuvres. Through ELLIIT research, the time it takes to optimise a manoeuvre for a sharp bend or when wildly swerving on the road has been reduced to mere seconds. This knowledge has spread to the industry through former PhD students at ELLIIT who obtained key positions at companies such as Scania and Volvo.

Advances in smart farming

In collaboration with the company Sensefarm, researchers are developing wireless moisture sensors and wireless data transmission for agriculture. These technologies make it easier for farmers to see which areas of the fields need watering and how much. The information about the water demand is transmitted directly to the farmer's computer or mobile phone. This leads to more efficient use of water resources and higher quality crops.

The future of 6G technology

Researchers at ELLIIT were pioneers in the development of a stable 5G network. They developed the idea of connecting hundreds of small antennas so that more users could send and receive signals simultaneously. This communication technology, later known as ‘Massive MIMO’, became the cornerstone of the 5G wireless network standard. It is now being further developed to create a well functioning and reliable 6G network.
