You will explore how these initiatives focus on generating social rather than economic value and why they are often described as social innovations.

Teaching and learning

The course combines theoretical studies with hands-on work. You will be introduced to key concepts in social entrepreneurship, social innovation, and sustainability.

In parallel, you will apply these concepts and work in groups to design and develop a social entrepreneurship and innovation project that addresses real societal challenges provided by our partner social enterprise. You will identify a specific problem, conduct fieldwork, develop a theory of change, outline a business model, build a prototype of your solution and pitch your final solution.

A core aspect of the course is its decolonial approach. You are encouraged to draw on your lived experiences, cultural backgrounds and community perspectives to challenge dominant assumptions, explore alternative ways of knowing and broaden how social problems and solutions are understood.

By the end of the course, you will have developed entrepreneurial skills and a sustainability-oriented mindset that will prepare you to design and lead social entrepreneurship and innovation initiatives in your future career.
