På svenska

Lund University is involved in 11 out of Sweden’s 20 national strategic research areas (SRAs), more than any other university in the country.

The strategic research areas promote innovative thinking and risk-taking in research and are characterised by long-term vision and multidisciplinarity.

They address current and complex challenges in-depth and from multiple perspectives, in areas such as health, technology, environment, climate, and society.

Their extensive engagement allows them to develop world-leading, research-intensive environments with both breadth and specialised expertise in cutting-edge research.

These areas are not only central to Lund University but also to maintaining Sweden's position as a leading international knowledge nation.

Biodiversity and ecosystem services | BECC

We study how biodiversity and ecosystem services are affected by changes in land use and the climate. The knowledge we gain contributes to sustainable solutions for nature and people.

Climate research | MERGE

We conduct advanced research on the climate – exploring what affects it, historical patterns, biosphere-atmosphere interactions, and what we can expect in the future with a changing climate.

Diabetes research | EXODIAB

We conduct experimental and clinical diabetes research. Our aim is to develop new treatments and drugs that can prevent or cure diabetes, which is a fast-growing chronic disease.

Diabetes research

Epidemiology | EpiHealth

By studying genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors, our researchers can explore why specific groups are more susceptible to certain diseases than others. This knowledge helps us prevent disease and promote good health.

Epidemiology

E-science | eSSENCE

Researchers in e-Science use computers and other digital technologies to study complex problems that were previously impossible to solve. Advances and discoveries in this field benefit both science and society as a whole.

Information technology | ELLIIT

This research area brings together researchers from different disciplines to meet society's challenges in IT and communications.

6G technology, robots and self-driving cars are some of the areas that the research focuses on.
