If you are interested in environmental justice, why it should be pursued and how the law can contribute to achieving it, this distance learning course will give you an overview of different perspectives in the field. The course is for those with prior legal knowledge and is taught in English.

## Overview
The distance learning course comprises 15 ECTS credits. The course is full-time (100% study pace) and runs for 10 weeks during the summer.
The course is conducted remotely with professionally recorded video lectures with accompanying self-correcting tests and reflective assignments. The course concludes with a written assignment. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email us, and we will be happy to help you.
Environmental Justice is an advanced-level law course for those who want to participate in a critical and multifaceted discussion on environmental justice. The course provides an understanding of the historical development of environmental justice. You will gain insight into the relevant policies and conventions that characterise this area of law, as well as perspectives from various actors. In addition, you will gain an understanding of why, when and where the development of environmental justice began.
What does justice mean in a world where power often trumps principles? This course addresses issues of justice in different societies and contexts, as well as how environmental degradation and climate crises are affected by our view of justice. It also deals with issues concerning the rights of both current and future generations to natural resources. Take this course to understand the legal and political tools available to enable environmental justice.

## Teaching and learning
The course is delivered entirely online via the Canvas learning platform and is designed to be flexible and easily accessible. You will watch professionally recorded video lectures on environmental justice, which you can view at your convenience. At the same time, you will read course literature and legal texts, which will give you a solid foundation to build on.
To support your learning, there are self-correcting tests with multiple-choice questions that you can take several times. These are not part of the examination, but they help you to review and understand the content.
### Examinations
Your performance will be assessed through four reflective assignments, each worth one (1) ECTS credit, and a final assignment worth eleven (11) ECTS credits. The final grade is based on a combination of your results on the four reflective assignments and your results on the final written assignment.
## After the course
### Early termination
If you do not wish to complete the course, you have the option of withdrawing early within three weeks of the course starts. Early withdrawal allows you to reapply for the course. Later withdrawals are final, and you cannot reapply for the course. You can either withdraw early via student.ladok.se or by sending an email to environmentaljustice [at] jur [dot] lu [dot] se.
### Re-registration
You must re-register if you wish to retake a course that you were previously registered for and did not complete.
You can only be re-registered if there is space available and during a term when the course is being offered. In other cases, re-registration is not possible.
However, if you only want to be examined on remaining tests, final exams or other compulsory components, you do not need to re-register.

At least 150 ECTS credits awarded within the Professional Law Degree Programme.
### Selection criteria
Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
