I am in my final year of upper secondary/high school studies. Can I apply for a Bachelor's programme?

When applying for Bachelor's studies at Lund University, you must submit your final upper secondary school documents by the document deadline. Preliminary grades are not accepted.

I am in my final year of a Bachelor's programme. Can I apply for a Master's programme?

In general, you can apply if you are in the final year of your Bachelor's programme, even if you have not yet received your final degree documents. For more information, visit the University Admissions website:

Are there any GPA requirements?

There is no official GPA (Grade Point Average) requirement for our degree programmes. To learn more about the selection criteria, find your programme in one of the lists below and visit the programme page:

Do I need GMAT or GRE to apply?

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores are not required for any of our degree programmes. However, for certain Master's programmes in business, economics and management, a well-balanced GMAT or GRE score may strengthen your application. Visit the relevant programme page for more details:

When and where to apply

When and where do I apply for degree studies at Lund University?

You apply online via the national application website, universityadmissions.se. Applications for most international programmes are accepted from mid-October to 15 January each year for studies starting at the end of August.

However, some programmes, including fine and performing arts and joint programmes, may have different application periods. Please check the specific programme page or website for exact dates.

There is also a much smaller application round in spring for studies starting in the spring semester of the following year. Note, however, that generally no or very few full degree programmes start in the spring semester each year.

Why is it important to rank my programme choices in order of preference in my application?

In Sweden, you can only be offered admission to one programme. The programme you list at the top of your application should be your most preferred programme. Any additional programmes you add to your application, are considered back-up options.

What documents do I need to submit and how do I submit them?

Learn about the required documents and submission process for Bachelor's and Master's applications on the University Admissions website:

Which country instructions should I follow when submitting my documents?

You must submit your documents according to the country-specific instructions for the country or countries in which you have completed relevant studies. You will find country-specific instructions on the University Admissions website:

What are 'programme-specific documents'?

Many, but not all, Master's programmes require programme-specific documents, such as:

a CV
a statement of purpose, or
recommendation letters.

Programme-specific documents are generally not required for Bachelor’s programmes.

My programme does not require any programme-specific documents. Should I submit them anyway?

It is recommended that you only submit the required documents. Submitting unnecessary documents will not help your application.

Is there a template for the programme-specific documents?

Some programmes may provide specific instructions or a template, which can be found in the 'Apply' tab on the programme page. If no specific instructions or template are available, you may use your own template.

Can I submit the same statement of purpose for several programmes?

This is in no way recommended. The statement of purpose is a programme-specific document and should be tailored to each programme for which you are applying.

Do I need to submit all documents at the same time?

You do not need to submit all your documents at the same time. You can submit them at any time, as long as all required documents are submitted correctly by the document deadline. However, we strongly recommend you submit your official documents early on.

Will I receive a confirmation once all required documents have been received?

You will not receive a confirmation when your documents are received. It is your responsibility to ensure that all required documents are submitted correctly by the document deadline.

English proficiency requirements

How can I prove my English proficiency?

All applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills. There are several ways of doing this. For detailed information, please visit the University Admissions website:

I will receive my English test scores after the document deadline. Will they still be considered?

All required documents, including proof of English language proficiency, must be submitted correctly and received by the document deadline to be considered for the application round you are applying for.

Application fee

Do I have to pay an application fee?

In general, non-EU/EEA citizens must pay an application fee to University Admissions in Sweden by the application deadline for their application to be processed. EU/EEA citizens are exempt from the application fee as long as they can document proof of their citizenship. For more information, visit the University Admissions website:

If you are required to pay the application fee, you only need to pay one application fee per application round, regardless of the number of programmes you have applied to.

Can I get an application fee exemption?

Lund University cannot waive the application fee. Unless you meet the general requirements for the application fee exemption, you must pay the application fee to University Admissions in Sweden for your application to be assessed. For more information, visit the University Admissions website:

Do I have to pay the application fee before submitting my documents?

You do not need to pay the application fee before submitting your documents. Payment can be made at any time, as long as it is received by University Admissions in Sweden by the application fee deadline. However, we recommend you pay the application fee early, as your application will not be assessed until this step is completed.

I received a message from University Admissions in Sweden stating that my documents are incorrect or missing. What should I do?

You have until the document deadline to submit all required documents and to correct any mistakes identified by the admissions officers at University Admissions in Sweden.

When are admission results announced and where can I find them?

Check the key dates and deadlines for your application round on the University Admissions website:

Your admission results will be available by logging into your account at universityadmissions.se. Note that no official letter will be sent by the University, as all admission results are provided exclusively online through your universityadmissions.se account.

I have been 'conditionally admitted'. What does it mean?

If you are a non-EU/EEA student, you will receive conditional admission until your first tuition fee instalment payment is received. Conditional admission is also granted to final-year Bachelor's students who must submit their final transcripts and degree diplomas before the start of the Master’s programme. I have been offered admission. How can I accept my offer?

Newly admitted students

I have been offered admission but wish to postpone my studies. Can I apply for a deferral?

In general, deferrals are only granted in exceptional circumstances. The rules for deferrals are set by each department, so you should contact the programme to which you have been admitted.

I have been offered admission but would like to decline it. What do I need to do?

If you do not wish to accept your admission offer, you must decline it in your universityadmissions.se account.

I have been placed as a reserve. What do I need to do?

If you have been placed as a reserve (or conditional reserve) for a programme, this means that you have not been admitted. You do not need to actively accept your reserve place in the international application round. There are no further steps for you at this stage.

If a place becomes available, you will be notified in your account at www.universityadmissions.se or directly by the programme staff. There is no specific deadline for receiving this information, as places can theoretically become available until the start of the programme.

I have been placed as a reserve. What are my chances of being offered admission?

The chances of a place becoming available depend on two factors:

the number of admitted students who choose to decline their offer
the decisions of those ahead of you on the waiting list.

If students further up the list decline their offers, this will increase your chances of being offered a place.

Do I have to pay tuition fees?

Students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are generally required to pay application and tuition fees. For more details, see the University Admissions website:

What is the deadline for tuition fee payment?

Payment of the first tuition fee instalment is due by 20 May for studies starting in late August and 30 by November for studies starting in January. See the page below for more details:
