## Overview
The programme is taught in top-tier research environments like the Biomedical Centre in Lund and Max Lab IV/European Spallation Source (ESS). You will learn from active research scientists, ensuring your education is connected to the latest advancements in biomedicine.
### Programme Structure
First Semester: Focus on advanced studies in experimental design, scientific communication, and cutting-edge laboratory work. Courses include applied biostatistics and ethics.
Second Semester: Tailor your studies with elective courses in areas like molecular neurobiology, tumour biology, metabolic disease, and stem cell biology.
Second Year: Prepare for a career as a biomedical scientist within academia or the life science industry. The courses include generic competencies in leadership, written scientific communication and oral presentation techniques, as well. Complete a 45-credit research project in Sweden or abroad.
Compulsory Courses: Experimental Design and Scientific Communication, Biomedical Methods and Experimental Animal Models, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and either the academic or industrial research track.
Electives: Choose 30 ECTS from a variety of courses at the Faculty of Medicine or other faculties in Sweden or abroad to create your own specialisation.

## Teaching and learning
From the start, you will learn through student-centred activities like group work, discussions and hands-on projects. You will practise presenting, finding reliable information, and writing academic texts in medicine, and get training in modern biomedical tools.
### Learning support
The university assesses each individual case to determine whether or not targeted learning support should be granted to make things easier for you as a student. However, you must be able to independently meet the objectives set for passing a course. A large part of the programme is carried out within healthcare. This requires that you, as a student, are able to work in a manner safe for patients and to follow applicable regulations. If you have any questions about this, please contact the study advisor.
### Working in laboratory environment
The programme includes compulsory components that in some cases require you to be able to work safely in a laboratory environment on your own. For example, working in fume cupboards, extinguishing a fire, handling flammable or corrosive substances, weighing, visual inspection and analyses of chemical reactions, etc. These components also require the ability to follow applicable safety regulations and instructions, as well as to move safely and quickly evacuate the premises. ## Requirements and selection
### Prerequisites
A Bachelor’s degree of 180 credits in biomedicine, bioengineering, cell and molecular biology or medicine, including an independent project (degree project) of at least 15 credits in biomedicine or science. Furthermore, the student’s previous studies must include at least 15 credits in biochemistry, at least 20 credits in basic cell biology (cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics and/or developmental biology), at least 5 credits in immunology, at least 5 credits in microbiology, at least 7.5 credits in human physiology and at least 30 credits in molecular medicine, pathobiology, pharmacology and/or toxicology, and English course 6 (advanced proficiency)
### Selection criteria
A combined qualitative assessment is made of the student’s previous education, relevant professional and/or research experience and reasons for applying to the programme. The applicant must attach the degree thesis. Any additional relevant research qualifications must be documented by a certificate of studies, employment or written research paper in which their individual contribution is clearly indicated.
