What Happens When You Submit a Report

When you complete the Tell Us with Details form, it is sent directly to the Report + Support Team of Liaison Officers.

What Should I Include in the Form?

The form asks for some details about the unacceptable behaviour you’ve experienced. You are not required to share every detail - only what you feel comfortable disclosing.

What Happens After I Submit the Form?

Once submitted, a Liaison Officer will contact you via the email address you provided within 2 university working days.

We will offer to meet with you online, in person, or over the phone to discuss your disclosure. We are here to listen, support you, and help you explore your options so you can make an informed decision about what to do next.

Report Anonymously

You may report anonymously if you're not comfortable sharing your details. However, please note that anonymous reports cannot lead to any action being taken, and we cannot contact you.

This is because we are not able to start a formal investigation process without a reporter submitting a formal complaint. Without a named reporting party, the alleged responding party may be unable to answer investigative questions if they do not know who the complaint is in relation to or who has reported them.

It also limits investigations, as the investigating officer will only have one anonymous disclosure to base an entire investigation from and cannot gather potentially important further details from a reporter if they are required.

Nevertheless, indirect action can be taken on the back of anonymous reports. This can take the form of training sessions being delivered by the Report and Support team to particular sports clubs, societies and departments that are displaying behaviours that breach the university’s regulations. Anonymised data will also help the University to understand patterns in behaviour and inform future policy.

If you would like direct formal action to be taken by the university, please submit a ‘Speak to an Advisor’ form, or else we are limited in our response.

You can submit a named report later if you wish to receive support or take further action.

What Is It Like to Talk to a Liaison Officer?

We understand that sharing difficult experiences can be challenging. You will always be treated with respect and compassion.

During your meeting, the Liaison Officer will guide you through your options and possible next steps. We can also connect you with internal and external support services.

We can outline both your informal and formal reporting options, including anticipated timelines and potential outcomes, to empower you to make an informed decision. A Liaison Officer will not force you to report anything, and unless there are concerns about your safety or someone else’s, everything you share will remain confidential.

Our goal is to ensure you leave the meeting with all the information you need to make the decision that’s right for you. We can remain your single point of contact if you wish, between yourself and University staff. This is to help minimise repetition of disclosure.

If you do decide to make a formal complaint, a Liaison Officer can:

Do I Have to Make a Formal Complaint?

No. You are under no obligation to make a formal report. The decision is entirely yours.

Please note: We can only investigate incidents involving individuals who are currently registered students.
