Photo guidelines for University cards

To ensure your photo is suitable for a University card, please follow these guidelines.

Please note that you can use different photos for your card and your online profile. The guidance on this webpage refers specifically to the photo that appears on your card.

File format and resolution

We accept photos in jpg, png or gif format. Your photo must be at least 240px high x 240px wide.

Colour

Photos should be in full colour and taken against an off-white or very light background. Don't submit photos in black and white, or with any effects applied. No Instagram-filtered selfies please!

Your image

• The photo must show a close-up of your face and shoulders.
• Look straight ahead with a relaxed face, not smiling or frowning.
• Your face and eyes must be clearly visible. If you wear glasses ensure there's no reflection and the frames don't obstruct your eyes. Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable.
• Religious headwear is allowed but it must not cover your face. The photo you use for your online profile can include a religious facial covering but the photo on your card must be uncovered.
