# The New Library Discovery Platforms

The table below highlights some of the key features of the Library's new discovery interfaces. Known issues are also listed with an indication of likely timelines for resolution. These platforms will continue to be developed and improved over the coming months. | 1 | Library Catalogue | Some print journal records lack a shelfmark number. The impact of this issue differs depending on where a journal is stored:    - Print journals held in storage: this situation will be the norm going forward. An online request form is in development to allow readers to place requests for storage materials. In the meantime, call slips can continue to be used to place requests (readers should leave the shelfmark field blank).    - Print journals on open shelves in the reading rooms: a project is underway to amend the records so that the shelfmark will be visible, allowing readers to locate the journal themselves. In the meantime, please contact Library staff if you require assistance finding a print journal. | Issue | For journals in storage: solution by end of January 2026. | 2 | Library Catalogue | Records that contain multiple links (e.g. to online journals) are not displaying correctly. The links work, but they are not displaying with the normal overlay text to make them human readable. Records that only contain one link are not impacted by this issue. | Issue | End of March 2026 |
| 3 | Library Catalogue | The 'Published' date range in some journal records is not accurate. This date range appears just under the title in the record, and also in the 'edition information' section. For the Library's correct coverage details, select the 'details/info icon' button in the edition information section. | Issue | End of February |
| 4 | Library Catalogue | When placing a Click & Collect request, you will sometimes have the option to 'request any edition' or 'find specific edition':    - 'request any edition' means the system will choose a copy for you from the overall pool of available copies.  - 'find specific edition' means that you can choose the edition and the specific copy that best suits you.    In most cases, we recommend choosing the 'find specific edition' option, as it will give you more control and increase the liklihood of receiving the most suitable copy. | Feature | N/A |
| 5 | Articles and more | When searching in the 'Articles and more' platform, you will get different results depending on whether you are logged in or not. We recommend logging in before conducting a search to ensure you get the best and most complete results. This recommendation only applies to current staff and students as these are the only cohorts who can log in to the platform. For visiting readers and members of the public, search results will not necessarily be comprehensive. | Feature | N/A |
|  | Articles and more | Some articles - especially in law databases - are not available through an Articles and More search. Users will need to access the relevant databases directly to find them. A good place to start is your Subject Librarian webpage, which will include a curated list of the best databases and resources in your subject area.
