In Senior Sophister, there are mandatory courses across all components, as before, and additionally, elective ones. One or two ’option’ courses are chosen from the those offered by the participating departments, amounting to 10 ECTS-worth.

Each student also undertakes a Final Year Project (worth 20 ECTS) under the supervision of a member of staff, drawn from one of the contributing departments. See the FYP section below for further information.

Computer Science

(Semester 2, 5 ECTS) An in-depth initiation into some topics in Knowledge Representation and Automata

(Semester 1 & 2, 20 ECTS) The capstone Final Year Project in Computer Science.

(20 credits, Full Year) Computer Science and Language Final Year Project.

Elective Modules

The option modules can be selected from the options offered within the CS department, or from those\ offered in the other streams of the degree course, subject to these amounting to 10 ECTS in total (and\ the agreement of the course director). These options are subject to some change year on year. The\ following list is indicative of options that have been offered recently.

Computer Science

(Semester 1, 5 ECTS) This course will introduce you to the exciting new field of fuzzy systems and the related topics in machine learning and the so-called deep learning neural nets.

(Semester 1, 5 ECTS) The objective of this module is to equip the students with the fundamental understanding of the major elements of Computer Graphics and explore related areas including geometric modelling, rendering and animation.

(Semester 1, 5 ECTS) Understand in general what a probabilistic model is, the distinction between so-called visible and hidden variables, and the distinctive nature of models where each datum is a sequence of varying length, rather then a fixed-size set of features
