## Retain Your Rights
## What is the Rights Retention Strategy?
The **[Rights Retention Strategy](https://www.coalition-s.org/resources/rights-retention-strategy/)** was developed so that researchers can continue to publish in the journal of their choice, while also complying with Plan S Open Access requirements.
The strategy requires that at least the Author's Accepted Manuscript (AAM) is published under a [CC BY](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) license with no embargo.
cOAlition S have notified publishers of this strategy and invited them to change their policies so that authors can make their AAM available immediately with no embargo.
Researchers should also inform the publisher that their AAM is open access under a [CC BY](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) license when they submit their article. When submitting to a journal, the researcher should include the following information:
- Name of your funder and your grant number
- Text to indicate that any AAM arising from the submission is already licensed CC BY.
You can use the [**templates**](https://libguides.tcd.ie/planS/rights-retention#s-lg-box-wrapper-18769082) below to communicate with your publisher both before and during submission.

## Repositories
The Rights Retention Strategy allows researchers to make their work Open Access for free while publishing in their choice of journal. Once the article is accepted, you just need to deposit their Author's Accepted Manuscript (AAM) in a repository, like **[TARA](http://www.tara.tcd.ie/)**. Read more about depositing in TARA[**here**](https://libguides.tcd.ie/TARA).
**Which article version should I submit?**
To meet the Plan S open access requirements, you should submit your **Author's Accepted Manuscript** (AAM) to a repository. The AAM is the final draft of your article after peer review, also known as a post-print. It usually does not include any typesetting, formatting, logos, or copyright statements from your publisher.
If you have any questions about TARA, please contact [rssadmin@tcd.ie](mailto:rssadmin@tcd.ie).
