American Chemical Society 2026 Agreement - Important Update
- The agreement does not include provision to publish open access at no cost to the author. In lieu of this, authors affiliated with participating institutions:
- may make their works open access by depositing a copy of the author accepted manuscript in a public repository with a CC-BY license and with no embargo period. No charge applies for this.
- may publish the version of record of their article (ie the publisher branded version) open access by paying a discounted article processing charge (APC). The discount applies to hybrid journals only: $2,000 for a CC-BY license, $1,500 for CC-BY-NC-ND.
Note: American Psychological Association OA costs no longer covered. The IReL agreement no longer covers APCs for APA publications. From Jan 1 2025 authors from IReL institutions will not have access to IReL-funded OA on acceptance of their article. They are however eligible for a 30% discount on APCs.
Further details of all IReL agreements including details for publishers not listed above are available at Resources – IReL
For more information, please contact publisherapproval@tcd.ie
For hybrid journals, authors can contribute to make their articles open access using the Green open access model, with no APC charge, subject to the journal's policy. Please contact rssadmin@tcd.ie if you require further assistance to deposit your accepted manuscript in TARA.
Open Access Agreements
Library of Trinity College Dublin is part of the IReL consortium, which has negotiated a number of open access agreements with publishers. In most cases, these agreements will mean that you can publish an Open Access article in one of the publisher's journals, and any Open Access fees will be covered by the agreement. The terms of these agreements vary from publisher to publisher.
A list of all the journals covered by these agreements is available at this link.
Check the details of specific agreements by clicking the link in the list of agreements to the left.
Who can avail of these agreements?
All corresponding authors affiliated with TCD can avail of these agreements. The corresponding author is the person responsible for manuscript submission and communication during the publication process.
Make sure to include your TCD address and TCD email address in the corresponding author details when you are submitting your article.
Do I still need to deposit my article in a repository?
Yes, the TCD Open Access Publications Policy requires all authors to deposit a copy of their work in TARA. If you have availed of an open access agreement, you can deposit the final published version of your article in TARA instead of your Accepted Manuscript.
Some research funders will also require that you deposit your work in a repository even if it has been published open access. Check your grant agreement for details of your funder's requirements.
