At Leeds International Summer School (LISS), you can choose to study modules related to your course at your home university or try a completely new subject.

We offer modules across a diverse range of subject areas including: Arts and Humanities, Business, Environment, Engineering and Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

Each module usually includes a field trip to support what you’ve learnt in the classroom.

Choosing your modules

LISS runs for four weeks and is made up of two blocks, each lasting two weeks. You will study one module per block.

If you’re applying for the full four-week programme, you should select one module from our block one modules and one module from our block two modules.

If you’re applying for the two-week programme, you should select one module from your chosen block.

When you complete the LISS application form, indicate which modules you want to study. Places on modules are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so you will need to select a backup module for your chosen blocks on the application form.

We need a minimum of nine students to enrol on an academic module for it to run. Some modules may not run if the minimum enrolment is not met.

We make every effort to deliver the modules as advertised, but occasionally changes may be necessary due to unforeseen circumstances.

Your offer letter will confirm which modules you have been allocated.

Credit transfer

Each module is worth 10 Leeds credits, so by completing the four-week programme, you’ll receive 20 Leeds credits. This is the equivalent to six US or 10 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System ECTS credits.

You may be able to transfer the credits you earn at LISS to your home institution. Please discuss credit transfer with an adviser at your home university before you apply as arrangements can vary from institution to institution.

Transcripts

If you successfully complete the summer school, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance and an official University of Leeds transcript with individual grades for each academic module you study.

We’ll present you with your certificate of attendance in the last week of the summer school and email your transcript to you in September. It’s your responsibility to pass on your transcript to your home university so that they can assess your study abroad period and transfer credit if necessary.

If your home university nominated you for a place on LISS, we’ll also email your transcript to your home university.
