# TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovation

At TU/e, we are looking for highly talented international students who want to shape the future of microchip technology. The Scholarship for Excellence is a unique opportunity for top students applying to a Master’s program - or a specific Master's track within that program) in one of the following departments:\
 **Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics & Computer Science.**

The eligible Master's programs - or a specific Master's track within that program include:

- **MSc Applied Physics**
- **MSc Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Systems**
- **MSc Automotive Technology**
- **MSc Computer Science & Engineering**
- **MSc Data Science & Artificial Intelligence**
- **MSc Electrical Engineering**
- **MSc Embedded Systems**
- **MSc Industrial and Applied Mathematics**
- **MSc Mechanical Engineering**
- **MSc Science Education**
- **MSc Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion**
- **MSc Sustainable Energy Technology**
- **MSc Systems and Control**

These scholarships are funded by the national Beethoven Program, a strategic investment from the Dutch government to accelerate innovation in the microchip sector.

## Who can apply?

You can apply if you:

- Have applied for a full-time Master’s program at TU/e (see table above) for the 2026-2027 academic year, starting on 1 September 2026.
- Meet the specific admission requirements of the Master’s program to which you have applied.
- Completed a non-Dutch high school diploma or university bachelor’s degree (or both).
- Have not completed higher education (university or university of applied sciences) in the Netherlands (exchange programs are allowed).
- Are not eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system.
- Have excellent academic results, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript (GPA ≥ 7.5/10).
- Do not hold another scholarship or Dutch study grant.
- Meet all requirements for obtaining a Dutch entry visa and residence permit.
- Are not applying for a joint Master’s with Tilburg University (JADS) or a [European Double Degree program](https://educationguide.tue.nl/double-degree-masters-students).

Please note: This is a very competitive scholarship – only about 2% of applicants will receive it.

## How to apply?

You are automatically considered for the Scholarship for Excellence if you:

1. Apply for a Master’s program in one of the eligible departments.
2. Submit your complete application **before 1 February 2026, 23:59 CET**.
3. Meet all scholarship eligibility requirements listed above.

## Selection procedure

After the 1 February deadline, the scholarship selection procedure will start:

1. TU/e International Office checks all applications for eligibility.
2. Eligible applications are sent to the Scholarship Selection Committee, consisting of: Rector Magnificus, Dean of Education, Director Finance & Control, and Director Education & Student Affairs.
3. Departments nominate students based on GPA.
4. Departments approve the final list; scholarship numbers depend on the size of each Department, on 1 November of the previous year.
5. The TU/e International Office confirms the selections by the end of March 2026 and will inform the selected candidates. If you are selected for a scholarship, you will be asked to sign a scholarship agreement.

Please note: The selection outcome cannot be appealed, scholarships cannot be deferred, are non-transferable to other Master’s programs, and the award amount is final and non-negotiable.

## Scholarship amount & duration

- Approx. 35 scholarships available: 20 for EEA students, 15 for non-EEA.
- €7,500 per academic year, for two years (if enrolled and performing well).
- The scholarships are not full scholarships and do not cover the total cost of your studies. You should be prepared to contribute significantly to your tuition and living expenses
- Paid in monthly instalments to a Dutch (or SEPA) bank account.
- Non-EEA students must still show proof of sufficient financial means for visa/residence permit purposes.

## Study progress

- First-year performance: at least 45 ECTS to receive the second-year scholarship.
- Expected to graduate within 36 months.
