Discover How Physics Explains Living and Soft Materials
The Biophysics and Soft Matter track takes a physics-first approach to studying life and soft materials. Unlike biology- or chemistry-driven programs, it offers a strong foundation in theoretical modeling and quantitative analysis, giving you the tools to understand complex systems across scales. You will explore how cells move, how polymers behave, and how active matter organizes itself. Experimental techniques such as advanced microscopy, rheology, and scattering help you connect theory with real-world behavior.
You become part of the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (ICMS), a leading interdisciplinary research center that brings together physicists, chemists, and biomedical engineers. This creates unique opportunities to apply your skills directly in fields like biomedical technology and sustainable materials. The track prepares you to create and control soft matter for applications in healthcare, nanotechnology, and more.
