Program \ The Biomedical Engineering Master’s is a two-year program. You can choose between a research profile or a free profile within this program.

The Education Guide of the Biomedical Engineering Master’s program provides more information about the curriculum, the courses, the external internship and the graduation project.

Research profile \ The first year of your research profile consists of specialization electives, free space and an external internship. The second year is devoted entirely to the graduation project. In the free space, you can choose to broaden or deepen your knowledge, by following a course at another department for example. There is plenty to choose from.

Free profile \ The first year of the free profile consists of specialization electives, free space and an external internship. The second year focuses on free space and the final project.

Further specialization: research groups \ Once you have chosen your master's track, you select your research group immediately afterwards. This research group guides you through the entire master’s program. You can choose from the research groups listed below:

You can find more information about the research groups on our department page.

Specialization electives \ Specialization electives facilitate a deep dive into your research group’s focal area. They offer you a perspective on the state-of-the-art of that research area, preparing you for the research you will conduct during your external internship or graduation project.

Internship\ The external internship takes approximately three months. The paramount objective of your external internship is that you gain experience in a research project outside the department. During your internship, you are mentored while you work on your own project within an ongoing area of research – science based, or in business. Ideally, you choose a research institute or an organization that has already been linked to for research purposes within Biomedical Engineering. Together with your mentor, you seek and find an external internship that is optimally aligned with your interest. We advise students to pursue their external internship abroad in order to gain valuable international working experience.

Graduation \ Your graduation project brings your Biomedical Engineering Master’s program to a close. It consists of a substantial assignment that you undertake individually and independently. In principle, this final project falls within the contours of current research. As a graduate student, you are required to draft your project using proper phasing and progress monitoring.
