This project studies the transition from Automobility to Smart Mobility. The aim is to study the role of data and information in the transition process. We focus on: \ • The future users of smart mobility, including drivers, truck drivers and truck companies, cyclist, pedestrians, road and traffic managers\ • The governance of smart mobility: the division of tasks between the government, industry and consumers\ • The on-going experiments and pilots in the field of smart mobility\ • How to deal with the enormous amount of data that is being generated by cars in a way that is both secure and useful from a societal perspective\ \ The research program ‘From (auto)mobility to smart mobility’ is a collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology and Rijkswaterstaat/Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu. Within the program, the transition to smart mobility is researched from a socio-technical perspective. Three PhD researchers from the Department of Innovation Sciences focus on users, governance, and experiments. Two PhD researchers from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science take a more technical approach and focus on data and security challenges.\ \ The project aims to inform and support policy in the field of smart mobility. At the start of project the focus has been mainly on Intelligent Traffic systems and management, but more recently the focus has shifted to Automated driving and Mobility as a Service (MaaS).\ \
