Registration as a resident
If you’re staying in the Netherlands for more than 4 months, you are legally required to register as a resident at the municipality where you live. This is called BRP-inschrijving.
Why is registration important?
- You’ll receive your BSN (Burger Service Nummer) – needed for work, banking, insurance, and more.
- It’s mandatory for most international students.
- You must register before you can access many services. \
What do you need to register?
- A permanent address (temporary housing like hotels or Airbnb is not accepted).
- A rental contract.
- Your passport.
- Your Dutch residence permit or IND approval letter. \
How to register:
- Make an appointment with the municipality of Eindhoven (or the city where you live). This is the link to make an appointment at the municipality of Eindhoven: Registration of foreign students | Gemeente Eindhoven
- Bring all required documents to your appointment.
- You’ll usually receive your BSN immediately. \
Important:
- If you move to another city in the Netherlands, you must register again at your new municipality.
-
When you leave the Netherlands, don’t forget to deregister.
