Note: The information on this page applies to applications for the academic year 2026–2027 and is intended only for applicants with a non-EEA nationality. Students from EEA countries are not required to pay a guarantee fee to TU/e.
What is the EEA?\ EA stands for the European Economic Area, which includes all EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Although Switzerland is not part of the EEA, it is often treated similarly for tuition and admission purposes. If you do not hold the nationality of an EEA-country or Switzerland, you are considered a non-EEA student.
Who needs to pay the guarantee fee?\ You must pay a guarantee fee if:
- You have a non-EEA nationality
- You have been admitted to a TU/e Bachelor's, Master's or Pre-master's program
- Your admission is based on a non-Dutch previous education
Exception: Non-EEA applicants already holding a Dutch residence permit do not pay the guarantee fee. For details on tuition fees and immigration procedures, please visit the following websites:
Guarantee fee amounts \ The following amounts are settled for academic year 2026-2027:
Program type - Fee Amount\ Bachelor: € 19,000\ Master: € 22,000\ Pre-master: € 1,700
Guarantee fee amount for scholarship students and/or double degree master students\ If you join TU/e through one of the following programs you may transfer a reduced guarantee fee payment of €500,-:
- EIT InnoEnergy: SELECT
- EIT InnoEnergy: SENSE
- EIT Urban Mobility
- Erasmus Mundus HySET
- Erasmus Mundus BDMA
- Colfuturo
- Conacyt
- LPDP - Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education
- SENESCYT
If you have a scholarship from another organization, send official proof to immigration.student@tue.nl to confirm eligibility for the reduced guarantee fee. TU/e cannot invoice your scholarship provider. You must arrange payment yourself.
Additional information for all applicants
- The guarantee fee covers:
- Visa and/or residence permit application (€254,-)
- First year Tuition fee
- Application fee (if not already paid)
- TU/e will begin your visa and/or residence permit arrangements only after receiving:
- Full guarantee fee
- Proof of financial means
- Required visa documents (after being admitted, you will be prompted from April onwards)
- If you decide not to enroll, TU/e will deduct the visa and/or residence permit fee (if already processed) and international transfer costs before refunding the remainder
- Follow the payment instructions to transfer the guarantee fee
- Any remaining amount will be refunded after enrollment and after opening a Dutch bank account.
- You do not need to follow the general tuition fee payment instructions elsewhere on the TU/e website. Payment of the guarantee fee automatically covers your first-year tuition fee.
- You must still indicate a payment method in Studielink. You will receive a notification about this.
