Want to discover the keys to improving the ways in which we connect and communicate in our increasingly digital world? Based on insights into social and media psychology, sociology, and data science, Human-Technology Interaction’s Behavioral and Social Computing track aims to shed light on how our online and virtual interactions can be understood and enhanced. This track provides valuable insights into the dynamics of our digital relationships. If you are interested in the very essence of our digital connections, this track is for you.

What you will learn as part of the Behavioral and Social Computing track

What does it mean to be embodied as an avatar in the metaverse? Do online games change how you see yourself? How do your online interactions influence your real-world behavior? How does information – true or false – disseminate through online networks of different shapes and sizes? To what extent are your thoughts and actions shaped by the media that you use? And what does this imply for the design of online platforms and virtual spaces?

The Behavioral and Social Computing track provides answers to such questions by fusing insights from psychology, sociology and data/computer science to delve deep into human behavior and interactions within socio-digital realms, including online social networks and virtual spaces. We use this knowledge to develop design recommendations for online technologies.

When to choose the Behavioral and Social Computing track

If you’re curious about the profound impact of ICT on human behavior and how tech design shapes it – from online interactions and gaming to digital friendships, media consumption and activities that were once unimaginable – the Behavioral and Social Computing track is tailor-made for you.

How you will learn

TU/e is located in Brainport – Europe’s most innovative technology region – and this track therefore offers many opportunities to interact with leading companies. This includes site visits, organizational challenges, research projects and guest lectures. To ensure that students feel supported throughout their master’s program and make well-informed decisions, Human-Technology Interaction also makes use of a mentor system. An experienced lecturer and researcher will guide you in making choices on elective courses, studying abroad and the graduation project. This region, program and mentoring system all enable students to tailor their education to their skills and interests with a view to their long-term future.
