Why selection for Bachelor's degree programs?
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is known for its small-scale, personal education. To maintain this high standard of education and our high levels of contact between teachers and students, we need to ensure that the right students enroll in our most popular bachelor's degree programs. If interest exceeds this maximum limit, we therefore apply a selection procedure to find students who best fit our profile of the Engineer of the Future. And that is not always the students with the highest grades. Above all, we were able to grant admission to many interested candidates. So do not get discouraged and participate in the selection procedure! See also the experiences of others in the videos.
Our ideal student profile
An engineer in today's society needs to have both scientific knowledge and the personal and professional skills to put that knowledge to use for society. He or she needs to deliver technological solutions for the complex problems facing society and the world: producing clean energy, healing diseases and injuries, and enabling sustainable mobility. To do this, engineers need to be able to collaborate, communicate and think creatively. To look beyond the horizon and have an enterprising mindset.
Is this you? Then we like to see you as a student next year!
| Please note: Programs with selection have a different deadline for enrolment, namely 15 January. |

- b - Why do I (as Dutch student) need a DigiD and how can I apply for my DigiD?
As Dutch student, make sure you apply for your DigiD in good time (at least one month before applying) because you will need this to be able to apply via Studielink. You can apply for your DigiD via Apply and activate | DigiD.
If you do not have a Dutch home address and cannot apply for a DigiD, you will find more information and a step-by-step plan on this website.\
For each academic year you can submit a maximum of two enrolment applications for a numerus fixus program, with the exception of the Medicine, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene and Physiotherapy study programs, for which you can only submit one application per numerus fixus program per academic year.
The number of times you are allowed to take part in the selection procedure varies from one educational institution to another. But: it is stipulated by law that you are never allowed to participate more than three times per studyprogram. A university or university of applied sciences can therefore decide...
In general, you can prepare by taking a closer look at the study program: does it fit what you are looking for? And by exploring the procedure, dates, etc. per study program, you won’t encounter any surprises.\ \ Whether you can or need to doing anything beforehand differs per Bachelor’s program. Check the program of your choice for study-specific details.
Your ranking is decided by combining several criteria.\ \ The ranking order is based on a combination of:\ \ (a) the average of your grades(GPA)\ (b) the result of one or more tests/assignments per study program.
In the Mechanical Engineering program, ranking is based only on the results of various tests (no GPA).\ \ All the results are converted into comparable scores (standard scores) before they are combined into a total score. In determining the total score, part (a) and part (b) are combined. The person with the highest score is ranked first, etc.
If you participate in the selection procedure, you will be assigned a ranking number on the basis of the two criteria. The student with the highest scores is assigned ranking number 1, the next highest score 2, etc., just as many numbers as there are enrollments.\ \ On 15 April you receive e-mail notification of your ranking number via Studielink. If your ranking number falls within the capacity of the study program (so within the number of available places), then you will receive another e-mail from Studielink in which you are offered a place for the study program. You can accept or reject this...
Once you enroll, you will quickly be asked to upload a certified copy and enter your grades. A certified copy is a copy of your diploma or list of grades containing an original stamp and signature from your (secondary/high) school whereby the school confirms that the copy conforms to the original.
We would like to receive the following grade list:
- Do you wish to enter via VWO? All VWO candidates submit the standard VWO-5 grade list which you can find here. (Even if you have already obtained your VWO diploma, we still want the VWO-5 grades. A VWO diploma is never sufficient!) Here you can find...

- i - How does TU/e calculate the average fifth grade pre-university grade ("5-Vwo") or GPA?
We add together the grades on the list - the ones you have entered - and we divide that figure by the total number of courses. We round this off to two digits after the decimal point. \ This applies only to the subjects which will be a subject of the Central Written Exams in 2026 according to the Examination Sheet 2026, supplemented with Mathematics D (if taken as an exam subject).

- S = Slecht (Poor) ⇒ 2
- RO = Ruim onvoldoende (Very insufficient) ⇒ 3
- O= Onvoldoende (Insufficient) ⇒ 4
- M = Matig (Mediocre) ⇒ 5
- V = Voldoende (Pass) ⇒ 6
- RV = Ruim voldoende (Generous pass) ⇒ 7
- G = Goed (Good) ⇒ 8
- ZG = Zeer goed (Very good) ⇒ 9

- k - My grades include decimals, but I can only enter whole numbers. What should I do?
You should round off all figures to a whole number in the following way:
- 0,000 – 0,499 ⇒ 0
- 0,500 – 1,499 ⇒ 1
- 1,500 – 2,499 ⇒ 2
- 2,500 – 3,499 ⇒ 3
- 3,500 – 4,499 ⇒ 4
- 4,500 – 5,499 ⇒ 5
- 5,500 – 6,499 ⇒ 6
- 6,500 – 7,499 ⇒ 7
- 7,500 – 8,499 ⇒ 8
- 8,500 – 9,499 ⇒ 9

- l - What happens when I have the exactly same ranking number as somebody else?
If two persons have exactly the same ranking number, the average 5 VWO grade gives the breakdown. If that is exactly the same, it is decided by lottery.
For all programs you must submit a dyslexia/dyscalculia report by January 22nd at the latest.
