Degree

Master of Science (MSc)

Mathematics drives innovation — from modelling complex systems and designing algorithms to enabling advances in areas such as AI, networks, and quantum computing. In the Industrial and Applied Mathematics (IAM) master’s at Eindhoven University of Technology, you learn how to translate complex real-world questions into mathematical models and turn them into impactful solutions.

Located in the heart of the Brainport region — one of Europe’s leading high-tech ecosystems — the programme connects advanced mathematics directly to industry, science, and society. You combine deep theoretical knowledge with computation and application, developing into a mathematical engineer who understands both theory and practice — and knows how to make them work together.

What makes IAM different?

Deep mathematics with practical application\ Develop strong foundations in discrete mathematics, continuous mathematics, and stochastics — and apply them to modeling, computation, and problem solving.

Flexible study paths\ Shape your own programme through clearly defined tracks and focus areas that combine theoretical, applied, and project-based courses. You can also broaden your experience through an exchange or internship abroad.

Challenge-based learning\ Work on open-ended, real-world problems inspired by industrial, scientific, and societal challenges.

Frontier technologies\ Engage with AI and machine learning, digital technologies, networks, and scientific computing. Specialize in quantum theory or quantum computing within the Quantum Science & Technology track.

Professional skill development\ Strengthen communication, teamwork, and leadership through the Professional Portfolio course and the annual Modeling Week.

International recognition\ First programme in Europe to receive the prestigious UPS Smith Prize Award (2022), recognizing its close ties with industry and future-oriented approach.

"I'M USING MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS TO SOLVE REAL-LIFE PROBLEMS'

For a modeling week, my group worked with an electron microscopy company to correct image distortion...
