Our MasterPlus Optics & Photonics provides you an additional expertise alongside your regular Master Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering. You will become part of a thriving community of academic and industrial researchers through a tailored mix of electives, research projects, and networking activities.

The MasterPlus offers an extra career boost through advanced courses, industrial internships, challenge-based projects, guidance on valorization and spin-offs, within a vibrant community driving scientific and societal change. You’ll immerse yourself in the excitement of crafting groundbreaking technology. Whether in a startup or a global corporation, be part of the forefront of innovation!

You enroll in the Master in Applied Physics (Optics and Photonics track) or the Master in Electrical Engineering. Within one of these programs, you choose at least three optics/photonics electives, an industrial internship and a graduation project in optics or photonics, taking a deep dive into the most recent scientific and technological developments in the field. A number of additional MasterPlus activities are organized throughout the year to connect you to the industry*.

*You will receive a formal statement that you successfully completed this additional MasterPlus Optics & Photonics! Choosing the MasterPlus however is not required for your degree and not an official accreditation on your diploma.

Join us in crafting your exceptional academic journey and apply now!

[### The Applied Physics program

Within the master's track Optics and Photonics, you delve into the physics behind cutting-edge photonics and modern optics, explore novel materials and uncover the potential of nanophotonics.](https://www.tue.nl/en/education/graduate-school/master-applied-physics)[### The Electrical Engineering program

You emphasize on technology and applications, and get in-depth understanding of photonic integration technology, including the design and fabrication of devices and circuits, and their application in sensors and communication systems.](https://www.tue.nl/en/education/graduate-school/master-electrical-engineering)

Ready to Dive into a World of Possibilities?

Here’s how it works!

First you need to enroll in the Master Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering. When admitted, you can apply to the MasterPlus in Optics & Photonics by sending an email to masterplusop@tue.nl. We will then send you a confirmation and inform you about the next steps.

At the start of the academic year a first information and networking event will be organized. Students enrolled in the Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering Master can register to the MasterPlus up until October 15.

Where Knowledge Meets Opportunity

On top of your regular MSc program, consisting of introductory and specialized courses, you engage in a series of industrial lectures, company visits, and social events, gaining exposure to industry insights and expanding your network. Moreover, a paid industrial internship of at least 2.5 months gives you a first-hand experience of the optics/photonics ecosystem. You then immerse yourself in a graduation project within a top-notch research group at TU/e or in an R&D department of a company. A week-long camp focused on optics/photonics careers and entrepreneurial training will also enhance your skill set.

Upon completion of the MasterPlus, a national optics & photonics job fair provides direct access to a range of job opportunities in both research (PhD) and industry*.

The MasterPlus in Optics & Photonics is a joint initiative of three technical universities and the industrial ecosystems PhotonDelta and Optics Netherlands.

*You will receive a formal statement that you successfully completed this additional MasterPlus Optics & Photonics! Choosing the MasterPlus however is not required for your degree and not an official accreditation on your diploma.

TU/e joins Phortify: European Network in Photonics Education

The Department of Applied Physics and Science Education and the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology are also a partner in Phortify, a new pan-European network dedicated to education in photonics. Phortify brings together leading European universities offering high-level MSc programmes in photonics.

Through Phortify, TU/e students that are in the MasterPlus Optics & Photonics can flexibly tailor their photonics education by accessing courses, thesis projects and internship opportunities at partner institutions, while remaining enrolled in their TU/e master’s programme.

For more information on participating programmes, admission requirements, scholarships and mobility grants, visit the Phortify platform. PHORTIFY funding opportunities are co-funded by the EU under the Phortify Grant Agreement.
