Housing for PhD and EngD students
Important: TU/e does not provide housing for PhD or EngD candidates. Very limited help is available through Vestide, but most candidates must find housing themselves.
Vestide has a very limited number of 1-person and 2-person* accommodations available for PhD and EngD candidates. We therefore strongly advise all candidates to search for housing independently and as early as possible. \ \ *Only suitable for 2 adults. Family housing is not available. If you are coming with your child(ren), you will need to find accommodation through the private market.
How to apply for housing (if eligible): \ As part of the InSite onboarding for employees or guests, HR sends an information email. This email contains details about accommodation and how you can apply.
HR Services then receives the notification and approves it in Mobility Online. When applying for housing, enter your arrival date in the Netherlands as the starting date – not the start date of your TU/e contract.
Be prepared to pay the first month’s rent, deposit, and any additional fees in advance (usually via credit card or PayPal). TU/e is not able to cover or advance these costs.
What happens after we receive your application?\ Once we receive your application, you will get a confirmation email. Around 8 weeks before your arrival, the Housing Officer of the International Office will let you know if housing with Vestide is available or if you have been placed on the reserve list. Being on the reserve list does not guarantee that housing will become available.
If you are offered a priority account to book a furnished room, please note:
- This is a one-time offer
- The contract start date may not match your arrival date exactly
- Availability depends on cancellations from current tenants
- The start date may be slightly earlier or later than your arrival
Housing — including temporary housing — remains your own responsibility. \ \ Vestide offers the following types of accommodation:
- 1-person accommodation (rent is € 450 - € 850 per month)
- housing for couples (rent starting at € 700 - € 1000 per month)
All Vestide housing is fully furnished. The following costs are included in the rent:
- Gas
- Water
- Electricity
- Internet
- Council taxes and other levies
- Maintenance
- Administration costs
- Safety appliances
- Inspection service
- Partial insurance
If you meet the criteria, you may be able to receive rent benefit. \ \ No accommodation available via Vestide?\ If no accommodation is available with Vestide, we have to refer you to arrange housing via the private market.
