Digital communication is rapidly reshaping the way we live, work, and relate to one another. Technology is no longer just something we use — it’s something we wear, experience, and often don’t even see. It’s embedded in our homes, vehicles, schools, hospitals, and cities. Whether it’s artificial intelligence, virtual reality, or smart lighting systems, technology influences not only how we behave, but also who we are becoming.
In a world increasingly shaped by digital innovation, the question is no longer whether we can build it — but how we build it for people. That’s where the Human-Technology Interaction (HTI) master’s program at Eindhoven University of Technology comes in.
This interdisciplinary program teaches you to understand and shape the interaction between humans and technology — from a scientific, technical, and design-oriented perspective. You’ll combine insights from psychology, cognitive science, and ergonomics with technical domains like AI, robotics, architecture, and ICT. Your goal? To design and evaluate technologies that enhance usability, trust, well-being, and human experience.
In the HTI master’s program, we focus onfundamental technical and societal issues that need to be solved. For example, think of:
- How should we deal with robots?
- How do you design recommendation systems for music?
- What effect does office lighting have on burnout?
- How can we regain a user’s trust when an algorithm fails to work?
- Does generative AI like ChatGPT change the work of writers and artists?
- Can you increase street safety with smart street lighting?
- Do students perform better when their abilities are regularly assessed online?
- What happens to you when you immerse yourself in the Metaverse with a VR helmet?
You’ll gain hands-on experience through research projects, case studies, internships, or an international semester. With scientific methods at the core, you’ll learn to evaluate, test, and improve both existing technologies and your designs. The program offers four specialization tracks — letting you focus your learning and projects on the domain you’re most passionate about. Whichever path you choose, you’ll graduate with the skills to design and assess future technologies that put human needs, ethics, and capabilities first.
## “We shape our technologies; thereafter our technologies shape us.”
Who Are You?
You’re someone who sees more than just code or interfaces — you see people behind the technology. Maybe you’re coming from a technical background, but you want to understand user behavior, trust, and experience. Or perhaps you studied psychology or social sciences, and now want to explore how that knowledge applies to AI, VR, and interactive systems. Either way, you’re curious about how to design technology that’s not just smart — but meaningful, ethical, and effective. You want to explore the psychological and societal implications of innovation. And most importantly, you want to shape a digital future that keeps humans at the center.
