## RESEARCH PROFILE

Johanna works as Associate Professor for Responsible Energy Futures and Responsible Innovations.

She is interested in questions about the social, political and justice dynamics embedded in the design, use and governance of innovations.

She mainly researches this through studying innovation efforts in the field of energy transitions. One of her focal points is the engagement and participation by citizens. Focusing on how people engage with energy innovations, she explores how local dynamics both shape and reflect broader socio-energy orders and futures.

## ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Johanna holds two Master degrees, one of International Relations from Dresden University of Technology as well as a Master Degree in Science and Technology Studies (ESST) at Maastricht University. \
She wrote her PhD dissertation at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of Maastricht University about "Power to the People? Civic Engagement with Small-scale Hydroelectric Plants in India".

In 2012 Johanna joined TU/e where she is part of the Technology, Innovation and Society group.\
From 2020-2024 Johanna was member of TU/e’s Eindhoven Young Academy of Engineering.\
In 2019 Johanna became Best BSc teacher of TU/e and in 2020 she received the “Lecturer of the Year” price, a national recognition for her innovative teaching engagements.
